By Petra Chesner Schlatter
Cotton candy. A ferris wheel. And the Ring of Fire. That’s part of what will be featured at the 2nd Annual Morrisville Rotary Carnival and Octoberfest. The event will open in Williamson Park on Delmorr Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 8 and will run for a fun-filled 11 days through Sunday, Oct. 18.The hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.“Octoberfest is a fall festival, which the Residents That Care Committee (RTC) has wanted to put together for quite some time now,” said Kim Kane, RTC leader and Morrisville YMCA community events coordinator.RTC is a group made up of Morrisville residents. Members are from the ambulance squad, Actors Net, the YMCA and the Morrisville Borough Recreation Board. “We are all just ‘residents that care,’ who want to make fun and safe things happen in our town for our residents and their children,” said Kane.Octoberfest is organized by RTC while the Carnival is orchestrated by Morrisville Rotary. The Carnival and Winterfest were so popular last year that they will be an annual event. “The turn-out was huge and the event was such a success that it was decided to make it a longer-run this year,” Kane said. “Last year, the event was only four days long. This year, it will be 11.”In addition to the rides, there will be all kinds of food available. The carnival vendor, Bartlebaugh Amusements, Inc., will be selling funnel cakes, lemonade, candy apples, cotton candy, popcorn and more.Arrangements are also being made for live entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Tables are available for crafters and flea market vendors.“As with all Rotary Clubs world-wide,” noted Ted Fletcher, events coordinator for Morrisville Rotary, “profits go to charity. One hundred percent of money raised over and above the expenses of the carnival rides will go to causes of the Morrisville Rotary Club’s choice.”There is no admission fee and ride tickets will be available at booths near the Morrisville Baseball concession stand. Discount packages will be available on selected nights. Tickets purchased will be good for any time during the 11-day run except as specified.
