Good Job to Dave May and Norma Wingate who put out a letter to parents about crossing the street at the high school. It was dated 9/24/09. Here is the link:

Morrisville appears ready for a change
We have been following a thread over at the Morrisville Message Board titled "Morrisville needs a change". It is a civil discussion regarding the upcoming election for both the school board and council races. Many good points have been brought up such as..
"Cassie" said.."The Morrisville Pride candidates are 4 out of a 9 member board. So they'd have to work together with the other 5 board members, AND THE COMMUNITY, and the teachers, and the administration, and other relevant constituencies to see where we as a community should go.
"Michael" said..(about the Morrisville Pride candidates)"I believe they are going to work with the community, not against it. I believe they are going to work with local, state, & Fed government, not against them, I believe they are going to stay within the law. I believe they are going to actually VOTE on the decisions that are made as part of public record. I believe they are going to make decisions based on the children's educational needs and not the almighty buck. That being said I believe they will actually do their very best to education the children of Morrisville well while taking every penny they spend in consideration, unlike the current school board majority who talk about caring about the kids but do nothing to back it up. AND I BELIEVE THEY HAVE ARE NOT GOING TO BUILD A NEW SCHOOL! No matter what smear tactics the Stay On Track group put out there.
"Zero is only a number" said"Marlys Mihok was not misspeaking when she said she did not want to be responsible for a school district. She and Hellmann and the rest of the Stay on Track team, Brenda Worob and Buckman, and Stout too, want the school district to close and to bus the students to another district. They have been trying to get that done for two years now. If Stay on Track wins, there will be no Morrisville school district in two years.
There are plenty more that you can check out for yourself by clicking the link. Our point is this. the people of Morrisville seem genuinely interested in this years election. They are tired of the "stay on track" lies and deceit. They want real change and progress for our town. The only way for this to happen is if we elect NEW leaders for both school board and council. By electing the Morrisville Pride group for school board, there will be a balance on the board that has not been there for some time. Electing new leaders for council will bring fresh ideas from people with no political agenda, they just want to help Morrisville be successful.
For several years people either have not voted, and/or were not informed of the issues and the track(no pun intended) records of the "old guard". This year is different. People are more informed and are ready for a change. In fact the Morrisville Pride candidates have been more than forthcoming to discuss issues with residents and even their opponents.
When you go to the polls on Nov. 3, vote on the issues, vote with you conscience, vote with PRIDE. Morrisville cannot afford to "stay on track"

More on traffic safety
Way back on June 19, 2009 we realized that there was a problem with the traffic at both schools. Of course back in June there was only a handful of residents following this blog, so we have decided to again publish the post we made back in June. The original posting called for a "safety committee" to be established. In our case it would cost nothing to bring together a few people to help many. If anything is going to be fixed, we must first need to talk about it.
A call for a safety committee
While perusing the web, we came across several school districts that have a safety committee. This is a committee that has members of the community, principal(s), in our case a constable, and the superintendent. In our case 5-6 members of the community would be a good number.
Below is a mission statement from a district in Texas.
Objective
The objective of the Safety Committee is to review district safety and security standards and ensure student and employee safety programs represent industry best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Safety Committee shall include the following, in addition to other duties and responsibilities as may be delegated to the Committee from time to time by the superintendent:
Review campus safety and security practices and procedures.
Review safety and security best practices and provide input to the superintendent for implementation.
Let us know what you think of this idea. Throughout the summer we are going to focus on the positive , and try to come up with ideas/programs, that can make our district a better, and safer environment for our children. Of course, if this Board slips up and continues its usual shenanigans, we will of course bring that to light also.

Morrisville Rotary to hold 11-day carnival
By Petra Chesner Schlatter
Cotton candy. A ferris wheel. And the Ring of Fire. That’s part of what will be featured at the 2nd Annual Morrisville Rotary Carnival and Octoberfest. The event will open in Williamson Park on Delmorr Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 8 and will run for a fun-filled 11 days through Sunday, Oct. 18.The hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.“Octoberfest is a fall festival, which the Residents That Care Committee (RTC) has wanted to put together for quite some time now,” said Kim Kane, RTC leader and Morrisville YMCA community events coordinator.RTC is a group made up of Morrisville residents. Members are from the ambulance squad, Actors Net, the YMCA and the Morrisville Borough Recreation Board. “We are all just ‘residents that care,’ who want to make fun and safe things happen in our town for our residents and their children,” said Kane.Octoberfest is organized by RTC while the Carnival is orchestrated by Morrisville Rotary. The Carnival and Winterfest were so popular last year that they will be an annual event. “The turn-out was huge and the event was such a success that it was decided to make it a longer-run this year,” Kane said. “Last year, the event was only four days long. This year, it will be 11.”In addition to the rides, there will be all kinds of food available. The carnival vendor, Bartlebaugh Amusements, Inc., will be selling funnel cakes, lemonade, candy apples, cotton candy, popcorn and more.Arrangements are also being made for live entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Tables are available for crafters and flea market vendors.“As with all Rotary Clubs world-wide,” noted Ted Fletcher, events coordinator for Morrisville Rotary, “profits go to charity. One hundred percent of money raised over and above the expenses of the carnival rides will go to causes of the Morrisville Rotary Club’s choice.”There is no admission fee and ride tickets will be available at booths near the Morrisville Baseball concession stand. Discount packages will be available on selected nights. Tickets purchased will be good for any time during the 11-day run except as specified.

Help for the traffic situation
No one can dismiss the fact that there is a traffic issue. We posted a blog entry earlier about this but deleted it shortly after. We stated in the blog entry that we had some ideas for the traffic situation but were withholding the info till after the election.(for fear of the SOT claiming credit). The person who commented and ourselves here realized that this was wrong and if we had any ideas we should share them. We apologize to the reader who may have took offense to the post being deleted.
So as requested here are the ideas we have for the traffic situation.
1. Create a dedicated teacher/staff lot at the high school. The rear of the school may be best. This would free up space in front of the school for drop off/pick up.
2. Further stagger start times for students to reduce the amount of traffic at the schools.
3. Additional crossing guards are needed at key areas.
There is a great site on the web that is worth taking a look at also.
Here is the link: http://www.popcenter.org/problems/school_traffic/1
We hope this is a beginning stage to solving the traffic problems at the schools. Does anyone else have any ideas?
