The 6 point plan
Manor Park building aka "The Lair"
Think about this also, what would really be happening is we would have a stay on track "lair", or "clubhouse", being used under the guise of a, administration building. Ok, enough conspiracy theories for now.
All this talk is probably just smoke and mirrors for what this uninspiring, crony infected board will do next.

District refuses to pay tech school
By: GEMA MARIA DUARTE
Bucks County Courier Times
Morrisville School District officials refuse to pay their share of the cost to operate Bucks County Technical High School until the Bristol Township school adjusts its funding formula.
The borough believes the tech school is overcharging Morrisville for educating 51 borough students who attend the occupational school full time. Morrisville board President Bill Hellmann issued a stinging indictment of the technical school Friday, saying it wasn't achieving academic standards, was too expensive to operate and should be returned to the part-time institution it once was.
"The larger issue is: We do not need nor can we afford a seventh very expensive academic high school at the tech school," Hellmann said. "They also have not met AYP the last three years. The six sending school districts already have six very expensive academic high schools. All six of us have huge deficits. We cannot afford it any longer and it will only get worse."
He continued: "The middle tech school and the upper tech school are tech schools only. I think (all contributing districts) can save approximately $15,000,000 per year going back to a tech school only. For last year and projected for the next year (2011-12) our cost has increased approximately $400,000, and we only have 51 students there. That is an approximately 76 percent increase in two years."
The newspaper was unsuccessful in reaching tech school officials Friday for comment.
Bucks County Technical High School serves students in the Bensalem, Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Pennsbury, Neshaminy and Morrisville school districts. Students sent there attend both academic and vocational classes on a full-time basis.
The Middle Bucks Institute of Technology in Warrington and the Upper Bucks County Technical School in Perkasie are part-time institutions where students split time between their home schools and the tech schools. Council Rock and Centennial students attend Middle Bucks.
On Wednesday, Morrisville stopped a scheduled $151,914 tech school payment due this month and put it in an escrow account. Similar payments in October and December were also placed in escrow. This year's last payment - about $200,000 due in April - will also being going into escrow, board member Marlys Mihok said Friday. Only the first payment was released, said Hellmann.
The district is being charged about $740,000 for this school year for Morrisville students attending the academic vocational school, much more than officials say the district should be paying. Until the school adjusts its charge downward, Morrisville plans to withhold payments, officials said.
Last week the board unanimously voted to have its solicitor prepare the needed legal paperwork to start discussions with the tech school administration.
"At this point, litigation is our only option, so it appears," Hellmann said. "Let the courts settle it."
At this month's board meeting, school directors, especially Hellmann, were frustrated and angered by the issue.
"I and our school district do not believe the funding formula is being properly applied and I have documented evidence supporting that statement from the two budget revisions from the 2010-11 fiscal year and how they were applied to Morrisville School District. We asked the tech school administration for an explanation and I am still waiting a year later," Hellmann said in a written statement.

$2M shortfall in early budget
from the bcct:
$2M shortfall in early budget
By: GEMA MARIA DUARTE
Bucks County Courier Times
MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
Increases in salary and benefits are responsible for the shortfall. One board member vowed there would be no tax hike.
The preliminary 2011-12 budget for the Morrisville School District has a shortfall of more than $2 million, though officials said that doesn't mean there will be a tax increase.
School director Marlys Mihok said Wednesday night she wasn't alarmed at the task of trimming the $19.7 million proposal.
"I guarantee you there won't be a tax increase," Mihok said after Wednesday's school board meeting. "Not on my watch."
Increases in salary and benefits are responsible for the shortfall, officials said.
"Our expenses are constantly increasing due mainly to generous salaries and benefits but our revenues are shrinking from the state - primarily because they also have a huge deficit - and other sources such as interest income, real estate transfer taxes, etc. due primarily to our national recession," school board President Bill Hellmann said Thursday.
"I also expect revenues from our federal government will shrink due to their unsustainable deficit. This deficit is preliminary only and our school board will work with the administration to narrow the cap in the upcoming months."
Because of the state's Act 1 law, the Morrisville school board isn't permitted to raise taxes by more than 1.4 percent without a voter referendum.
When the final budget is approved, Mihok predicted that it will be pared to $17.9 million so there will be no deficit.
The school director wouldn't disclose how she proposes to trim the budget, but she stuck to her vow to not increase taxes.
The only other business discussed Wednesday was a permanent superintendent.
Board members were expected to give the job to William Ferrara at Wednesday's meeting.
Ferrara has been the acting superintendent for the district since September. But state law requires that the district open up the position to other applicants before filling the job.
Ferrara's contract requires him to go through a performance evaluation in May.
Ferrara said after the meeting that he would rather go through with the evaluation process than just be given the job.
The school board moved the rest of Wednesday's meeting agenda to Feb. 16 due to the storm.

Sad news, Brenda Worob passes
School board director dies
School board director dies
By: GEMA MARIA DUARTE
Bucks County Courier Times
MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
Brenda Worob, 50, served on the board since 2005.
Brenda Worob loved to watch the sunset.
It became one of her favorite pastimes after she was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago, when doctors told her she had three to six months to live.
She surprisingly exceeded doctors' expectations, but at 3 a.m. Friday she lost her battle to the disease. The last eight months of her life, the Morrisville school board director was homebound, mostly on bed rest, Penny Johnson, her sister-in-law, said Friday afternoon.
Worob, 50, leaves behind her husband and high school sweetheart, Stephen, and their two children, Jenny, 29, and Stephen, 26.
The year Worob was diagnosed with the disease, she and her husband, a former borough councilman, rented a beach house at the Jersey Shore. They continued the tradition the next 10 years.
"I say thank you to her because she taught my brother to relax by watching the sunset," Johnson said. "She lived life by the moment. She refused to believe doctors (about her limited time to live). She really thought she was going to beat this."
Worob moved from Langhorne to Morrisville when she was 16. At 21, she became a Republican committeewoman, a position she kept through her sickness.
In 2005, Worob was elected to the school board and re-elected in 2009. In addition to being board treasurer up until the time of her death, she was an outspoken member of the board on many contentious issues.
"Brenda faced the challenges confronting the Morrisville School District with great insight. She did what was best for the community and the education of our students," said the district in a written statement.
School director Marlys Mihok described Worob as a "gem of a woman."
"I lost my best friend," Mihok said. "I'll miss everything about her - her spirit, her courage, her optimism about life. She did so much for the community."
In 2004, she worked as legislative assistant for former state Sen. Joe Conti. She continued that position with Sen. Charles McIlhinney, R-10, through 2009, when her illness worsened.
"It's a loss for Morrisville," Mihok said of her friend's death.

Reithmeyer not sure if she'll fight for seat
From the BCCT:
Reithmeyer not sure if she'll fight for seat
MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
The school board vacated her seat after she didn't attend any school board meetings for a year.
For the past 12 months, Robin Reithmeyer hasn't attended a single meeting as an elected member of the Morrisville school board.
And it's taken the board that long to remove her from the seat.
The board took action last week, after a year in which neither Reithmeyer nor school board members talked to one another. During each meeting over the year, members had assumed she would show up at the next meeting, one board member said.
Reithmeyer said last week that illness and family crises made it impossible for her to attend meetings. And she's uncertain whether she'll fight to get back her seat.
"I'm undecided," she said, adding that she found out about the board's action Thursday morning.
Head board directors - President Bill Hellmann, Vice President Alfred Radosti and board secretary Marlys Mihok - knew about the death of Reithmeyer's father in December. But they weren't aware of Reithmeyer's health problem, Mihok said last week.
She added that a policy requires school board members to call her when they plan to be absent. Reithmeyer said she's not aware of the policy, but did call the secretary assigned to the board, Jeanne Corrigan. Since Corrigan doesn't talk to the media, the newspaper couldn't confirm that Reithmeyer called her.
Reithmeyer said she told former Superintendent Elizabeth Yonson about her health troubles and thought Yonson would have told the board members.
Neither Hellmann, Radosti nor Mihok reached out to Reithmeyer to address her absence.
"No, I can't say we tried to contact her," Mihok said.
So when Reithmeyer was a no-show for nearly a year, the board directed solicitor Thomas Profy to take action. A letter was sent to Reithmeyer dated Oct. 25, two days before Wednesday's school board meeting, informing her that the board intended to declare her seat vacant.
"She could have let one of us know of her illness," Mihok said. "If she couldn't contact us personally, a note could have gone a long way. + With regret, we vacated her seat. It's for the best of the community."
The non-communication between Reithmeyer and the majority of the board isn't a surprise.
Reithmeyer often clashed with fellow board members - mostly with Mihok, Hellmann and member Brenda Worob - on major issues such as school renovation projects and finances. Arguments between Reithmeyer and the board majority would sometimes get heated.
She often said the board majority hurried into decisions and was too focused on saving money. And she accused Hellmann of being closed-mouthed about his thoughts and plans. In many issues she was the lone vote, such as opposing implementing an early retirement incentive plan.
Board members have 30 days from Wednesday to replace Reithmeyer, according to the board's solicitor.
Whom will they appoint?
"Someone to contribute to the school district and (who) has common sense," Hellmann said after Wednesday's meeting.
Before Wednesday's vote, Profy sent a letter to Reithmeyer dated Oct. 25, informing her that the board intended to declare her seat vacant under the Public School Code, which "authorizes a Board of School Directors to declare a vacancy, if a School Director neglects or refuses to attend two successive regular meetings of the School Board unless, of course, detained by sickness and/or an otherwise necessary and justified absence," the letter states.
The letter continues, "You will be given an opportunity to show that your absence was caused by sickness and/or an otherwise necessary and justified absence has caused your failure to attend the two previous successive regular meetings of the school board."
Reithmeyer responded to Profy with a letter dated Oct. 27, which was also copied to William Ferrara, acting superintendent, and Paul DeAngelo, the business manager. In the letter she asked that her letter be distributed to all board directors.
"On Aug. 25 I was in the emergency room at St. Mary Medical Center; clearly out of the district and unable to attend the school board meeting. I spoke to both Jeanne Corrigan and Paul DeAngelo that afternoon and asked that they state only that I would not be in attendance. I did not feel it was anyone's business and asked that it not become a public issue," Reithmeyer said in her letter.
She was at the hospital because her mother was admitted, Reithmeyer said last week in a phone interview.
The letter continues, "After being hospitalized Sept. 16 through (Sept.) 18, I was under a doctor's care and not released to normal activity at the time of the Sept. 22 meeting. I did not realize that my private struggles with health and my family needed to be made public. + Additionally, I will not be at the Oct. 27 meeting because I will be out of the district at the time of the meeting."
She added, "I truly hope that everyone on the board will be held to the same standard."
School director Worob hasn't attended meetings in a few months also because of a recurring illness.
"Brenda keeps in constant communication with us, keeping the board updated about her health," Mihok said. "So it's different."

New principal in, board member out
By: GEMA MARIA DUARTE
Bucks County Courier Times
MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
The school board also set the salary for the acting superintendent.
The Morrisville school board gave the acting superintendent a $120,000 salary, hired a new high school principal and gave the boot to school board member Robin Reithmeyer because she had not attended a meeting in a year.
The board hired Donald Harm, a retired employee of Pennsbury School District, to take over the responsibilities as the Morrisville High School principal, the position formerly held by acting Superintendent William Ferrara.
Harm's salary was set Wednesday night at $60,000, which will cover the reminder of the school year ending June 30. Ferrara's $120,000 salary is for one year and is retroactive to Sept. 22, when he was appointed to the position, after Elizabeth Yonson resigned also in September.
Details of Yonson's resignation haven't been disclosed because board President Bill Hellmann has cited that her abrupt leave is a personnel matter.
The salaries of Ferrara and the hiring of Harm came after more than a 30-minute long executive session, at which time personnel matters were discussed.
It's unknown whether making Reithmeyer's seat vacant was part of those discussions. The issue wasn't on the agenda, but Hellmann brought up the vacancy suggestion at the last issue for discussion.
During a brief discussion, board member Marlys Mihok said Reithmeyer last attended a meeting in October 2009. Mihok added that there were a few times the board received indications that Reithmeyer would attend some meetings, but didn't show up.
School board member John DeWilde said that he hopes for her speedy recovery.
"From what?" Mihok asked.
DeWilde didn't respond.

County Commissioners Meeting
Anonymous said...
(unrelated to any of this)
I heard an interesting story about this morning's county commissioner's meeting.
During the public comment portion of the meeting which is at the end, Marlys (who sat with Ron Stout) got up and bashed the CDBG grants & the work having been done/being done at Morrisville's library. Marlys talked about having paid her 25 cents a page at borough hall for paperwork on the renovations (because school board isn't enough for her) and that the money was wasted on engineering fees. The funny part about that is that when the new borough council got rid of Jane Burger's engineering buddies, Pennoni, (who did the engineering on the library) and brought in another firm, it was Marlys who had come to public comment complaining that they should keep Pennoni. I heard that this morning she was pretty tackless and open about her dislike for the library renovations. (No big surprise, its another educational facility.) I heard she really embarrassed herself with her rantings, which is sad because here these people are coming to Morrisville to hold this county meeting and there's Marlys acting like "herself" as a Morrisville resident and elected school board official.
This is the second school board official to recently bash the worth of the Morrisville Library & its renovations. Ron Stout came to a recent borough council meeting and bashed council for the work at the library. He ended his public comment statement by saying that anyone on council who votes for the library porch roof grant is a "rotten thief".
(On a side note)
I also heard that Ron Stout came into the library not long ago and harrassed a female teenage employee about the renovations & her job for 45 minutes or so. This teenage employee has a parent who sits on borough council. I heard Stout even went so far as to accuse this teenager of getting the job because of this fact. This kid could have gone anywhere in Bucks County to work but wanted to give back to her community. What is Stout, like 70, picking on teenage girls. Scary that this is who is in charge of Morrisville's children.
Of course Marlys & Stout wouldn't understand having work done on the library. Don't bother to do the work when it needs done so that it doesn't end up like the school district and who needs those pesky county grants so let's make sure a borough council that they don't like doesn't get any more of them. Just make them raise my taxes to pay for them instead.
Thankfully, the county commissions didn't feel the same way and today they gave the Morrisville Library an additional $1000 grant.

Marlys publically bashing grants to the very people Morrisville receives them from is what I see as a new low, but just another day in the life of someone like Mihok.
As for the Ron Stout picking on a teenage girl at work, I'm just shaking my head at this one. She should have called the police. Again I see this as a new low for Stout, but its just another day to him too. Routine business in Morrisville.

Incredibly active in a bad way. Does Marlys have a day job? She's not of retirement age, is she?
Rotten thief? Didn't Ron's buddy Steve lose a house over comments like that? What embarrassments.

They don't appear to have any shame of their own whatsoever. But they sure are bringing it down on Morrisville. Curious as to how Diane Hughes feels about "The Marlys and Ron Show" smearing the library work. How they (Ron+Marlys) have a shread of credibility in the entire community is beyond me.

Potpourri for 8/28-9/4
Some things to consider/ponder:
1 Will the renovations Grandview be finished in time?
2. Why is Paul DeAngelo awfully(no pun intended) vocal all of a sudden. At the last board meeting, we heard he was unusually "chatty". Any truth to this.?
3. Who is Marlys next victim? She has permanently had the children in her sights for many years now whether from the photo lens, or by a yes vote on some sort of cutting of a program at the schools. She single handily led the way to slash Color Guard coach Donna Wilson's stipend by 75%. As Marlys continues her crusade against all things good and right, what is her next move . Hopefully her behavior is going to catch up with her soon. Do your boro a favor Marlys....resign now. We can continue without out your "leadreship" on the board. here is a quote staight out of the SOT handbook that Marlys should try sometime, "Just Cooperate". If Marlys would just cooperate things would be so much better in our schools. Instead she is intent on burning bridges, breaking rules, and trying to run Morrisville like it's her own private fiefdom. She uses her dais on the school board to take out 25+ years of anger against just about everyone and everything. Just like the voters in the 3rd ward had had enough of Jane Burger and her ways, The entire district, we feel, has had enough of your community dividing ways.
4. What is the over/under on getting some sort of a playground at the IS/HS. We are going to set it at 6 months.
5. It was nice to see in the letter home that there will be some sort of control over the traffic flow at the IS/HS. This is something that is needed in the name of safety. But unless it is enforced in the parking lot, expect the same chaos as years past. We will remain cautiously optimistic and give it a few weeks for them to work it out.
6. If you are not happy with lunch prices going up, simply have a silent protest and don't buy the lunches.
7. Lastly, if there are any students out there reading this blog. Please share with us any thoughts you may have on your experience at school this year whether its good bad or indifferent.

Ponder this...
March 2009-Voted in favor of putting grades 4-12 under one roof. If you remember she ran on a platform against this very thing.
Marlys is also wrapped up in the process to sell M.R. Reiter for open space money. Did we mention that she also serves on the board of Summerseat? In the words of the late Irv Homer: "It's a land grab!"

An even new low for Marlys
And so the nastiness continues...I was informed tonight that Donna Wilson received a certified letter (costing who? the taxpayers? $5.54 to send)dated June 24th, and signed by Marlys Mihok (again) stating that the School Board expects her to attend the August meeting and apologize to the "drill team".
First of all, let me state simply that my daughter will not be attending any more board meetings. She had witnessed enough to come to her own conculsions about some members of the board. I do not inform her of the many atrocites that go on at these meetings, so this was a clear example of actions speaking louder than words. After she attended the June meeting she stated that Hellman didn't pay attention to anyone speaking, rolled his eyes and made faces, and various other board members were just as disrespecful in an eleven year old's eyes.
Second of all, as a parent of one of the girls on the Color Guard Squad if anyone should ask for an apology from Donna Wilson it should be myself or another parent, NOT anyone on the school board. Not to mention, all of the parents of the squad members were present at that meeting and were witness to everyone's actions - including Mrs. Wilson's. We have all extensively discussed the events of that night and I do not feel that Donna owes anyone an apology - especially the school board.
If anyone owes anyone an apology it is the school board for causing all of this drama around something so positive. They are the proponents of this fiasco and they are the ones that are continuing while all we want to do is move forward and look to fantastic football games and halftime shows!

Signs of an ineffective school board member
Signs of an Ineffective School Board Member
If you notice any of the following signs, it's time to find some new candidates to run for your local board:
- The school board member continually focuses on one issue or talks aimlessly at meetings.
- The school board member doesn't conduct him or herself in a respectful, collaborative manner in public.
- The school board member comes to meetings unprepared.
- The school board member "rubber stamps" all the superintendent's proposals without asking hard questions.
- The school board member micromanages rather than focusing attention on district-wide policies.
- The school board member uses his position on the school board as an opportunity to put forth a political agenda with little relevance to student achievement.
Marlys continues the negativity

This is the email we received:
As a parent of a "Morrisville Drill Team member" I received a negative letter in the mail from school board member Marlys Mihok.
The letter outlines the events of the June 23rd school board meeting and attempts to highlight the conduct of Color Guard Coach Donna Wilson. Having attended that school board meeting, I tried to understand the point of this letter but only was disappointed to see that it was to further personally attack Donna Wilson.
The letter fails to inform to someone who did not attend the meeting the manner in which Mrs. Wilson's stipend was cut by 75%. It states that this is "due to the trying economic times which we are all experiencing" in which if this is true why wasn't that something that was presented at the Agenda meeting just the week prior instead of just throwing it in there, hoping nobody might notice. Generally, if someone would have to take a cut in pay, I would think it would be a discussion with the employer to employee. Not to mention, that if this were to be voted on, all board members voting on the subject would have known the information - which they did not. This was yet another underhanded move made by the current school board majority and to deflect that they attempt to discredit Donna Wilson's character.
Mrs. Wilson has since publically apologized, on this blog for her minor outburst during the heat of the moment. It isn't about the money but more the simple fact that this is personal. The simple fact is this - no other program was questioned, no other coach's stipend was cut and how much is $750 compared to the "up to " $25,000 budgeted for the "Public Relations Director" that has yet to utilize any organizations within the schools and community for any positive information.
The last part of the letter states "In the future, we will hold the Drill Team Advisor to a higher standard". Having attended many school board meetings and seeing the board members in action, I have yet to see them hold themselves to whatever standards they speak about. Members of the school board are rude and disrespectful to the members of the community while speaking and noticeably hold sidebar conversations.
The standard that Mrs. Wilson holds herself and her team to are, in fact, quite high. She asks the team sign contracts that the team must adhere to throughout the year. That only begins the journey that the girls have signed on for. More than just a coach, Donna Wilson takes the time to educate, listen to and understand each girl individually. My daughter has benefited greatly from just one year of being on the squad and is looking forward to continuing it through her days as a Morrisville student.
Mrs. Wilson takes great pride in her team and as a lifelong Morrisville resident, she has often mentioned that she "bleeds blue & gold".
My hope is this - that those who point fingers can instead look inward and realize that they highlighted the negativity that makes up the school board instead of whatever the original goals might have been. The strength and support that has rallied around Donna Wilson since this situation occurred has shown me renewed hope and pride in this small town. We can all learn and benefit from knowing that not only is Donna Wilson helping to better our schools but we (all of the many volunteers that support her) do our part to help despite the negativity and viciousness.
We will take this, move forward and help keep the pride high in Morrisville.

More on Marlys......
What is interesting is how Marlys seems to always be on a rant about "aides, aides, and more aides", and how the district spends too much money on salaries. Ok Marlys, perhaps if you have some time in between free luncheons, you could explain yourself.
In this letter Marlys says "Morrisville has been top heavy with highly paid administrators for decades." Marlys just recently, within the past year voted to increase the salaries of the principal, business administrator, and the head of the special education. All while saying the "district spends too much on salaries". Oh and add another $25k on top of the previously mentioned raises and you will see that Marlys is really not trying to control salaries at all. This makes your slashing of 75% of a coaches stipend appear even more personal, and vindictive.

School Board meeting recap
We are hearing that Bill Farrell was up on his soapbox once again speaking how we all need to work together and put our differences behind us. We have two words for you Mr. Farrell......ENOUGH ALREADY!! Are you not watching what takes place at these meetings. How can the parents of this district trust anything your friends on the board do? Shame on you and your ignorance!

Board OKs budget with no tax increase
By: MANASEE WAGH
Bucks County Courier Times
MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
Morrisville School District residents will pay no tax increase next year.
Voting 6-0, the school board approved an $18.3 million budget Wednesday night that balances the budget using $250,000 from the fund balance. That fund, which totals about $3 million, includes money left in savings from the previous year.
Board members Robin Reithmeyer, Brenda Worob and Gloria Heater were absent.
Business administrator Paul DeAngelo said he has earmarked another $250,000 from the fund balance to help pay for the Public School Employees' Retirement System. Retirement rates are expected to increase dramatically over the next five years.
The same millage rate of 177.3 will apply once again, and the average resident will pay about $3,191 in taxes. It's the third year in a row without a tax increase. In fact, taxes decreased in the previous two years.
The administration has said that no educational programs or services will be adversely affected by the $84,500 decrease in the spending plan.
About 60 percent of district expenses for 2010-11 will go toward salaries and benefits, which are contractual obligations. Other uncontrollable factors include special education and transportation services.
The bulk of the revenue is coming from local sources. State and federal funding, teacher retirements and efficiencies in energy and other areas are contributing to the savings in expenditures.
"We are not unusual in wanting to provide quality education and still keep taxes low. As always, this board directs its efforts toward making our small school district run as efficiently as possible," said board President William Hellmann.

Traffic again to the forefront in Morrisville
From the BCCT:
Morrisville seeks answers to school traffic problems

The traffic situation has become so snarled that one parent set up a Facebook site to collect complaints.
Parents have complained for more than a year.
And now, the borough and the Morrisville School Board are closer to finding fixes for school traffic safety concerns.
"This issue encompasses something we can mutually solve," borough council President Nancy Sherlock said recently.
Making the roads more secure for the district's roughly 1,000 students has been an ongoing topic of discussion, but new problems came to the forefront after M.R. Reiter Elementary School closed after a December 2008 furnace explosion.
Now Reiter students in grades four and five attend classes at Morrisville Middle/High School and the younger children all attend Grandview, increasing both vehicular and pedestrian traffic during school start and dismissal times.
Outside Grandview, the one-way street can get chaotic as parents and children in pre-kindergarten through third grade vie for space with vehicles.
The situation became so frustrating that parent Wanda Kartal started a "Petition for Safety" Facebook group last year to call attention to the problem of "near misses" she said she saw frequently from her home near the elementary school. The group has 77 members.
One member says she can't get out of her driveway sometimes and that traffic hardly moves down Melvin Avenue near the school. Another says, "We have a child of our very own at Grandview and I also pick up a friend's child who attends the IntermediateMiddleSenior High School. I can confirm that since the reconfiguration of grades after the MR Reiter explosion, (starting last spring), the traffic and safety issues have dramatically worsened."
Grades four and five enter and exit by the back door of the high school, near the administrative offices, but many children and adults still have to cross busy Palmer Avenue in front of the building, where cars clog the road every morning and afternoon.
Existing safety measures haven't been enough to alleviate traffic congestion and careless driving, say some parents.
Grandview parent Christine Phillips sees cars driving in the correct direction on the one-way road outside the elementary school, but many are still going too fast, she said Wednesday.
"People who aren't stopping to pick up kids aren't following 15 mile per hour rules. Sometimes, I come out of the school with my kids and see cars zipping up the street," she said.
The board would like to see the following additional solutions put in place, said board member Marlys Mihok:
n Flashing yellow lights to indicate a school zone in front of Morrisville High School.
n Reflective lines or flashing lights to send people in the correct direction out of Grandview Elementary School.
n More crossing guards at both schools.
Other options may include no parking on one side of the Melvin Avenue and Grandview Avenue intersection, to give the Grandview Elementary crossing guard better visibility, said Sherlock.
Paul DeAngelo, the school district's business administrator, is researching options for safety solutions, including cost estimates for the flashing school zone sign and options such as using a cheaper solar-powered sign.
"We'd work with the borough to make sure they're OK with whatever we pursue," he said.

School Board Meeting tonight!!!
Anyway, if you want to speak, be sure to sign up before the meeting starts.
Will Brenda Worob be prepared, or even show up?
Will Angry Al be sitting there waiting to put his foot in his mouth again?
Will Bill Hellman fall asleep again?
Will Jack Buckman......do anything?
Will Ron Stout win another phony award?
Will Marlys Mihok continue to make a fool out of herself with her lies and deceit?
The audacity of the board majority and the stay on track slate is frightening!!
Be there to stand up for Morrisville! Don't let them ruin our town and our schools any longer.
