Lunch prices going up.

Attention parents: Lunch prices are going up by 20 percent when the school year in Morrisville begins on Sept. 7. That's 50 cents higher than the past three years.
The increase, approved unanimously by the school board Wednesday night, has some parents upset about being denied input into the decision. A few tried to speak up against the increase in cost, but their request was rejected abruptly by board President Bill Hellmann.
"No," he said firmly, making a stop sign out of his hand as he faced the parents.
They continued to whisper and mumble, some complaining they don't qualify for the federal free or reduced-price lunch program, which is based on family income.
Parent and former board member Johanny Manning said she has three children in the district who she packs lunch for.
Once every two weeks, she treats them to a paid school lunch.
"That's $9 in one day," she said. "It's a lot of money."
Faculty lunch prices will also increase in Morrisville, from $3.75 to $4.25. The breakfast price will remain the same, $1.35 for students and employees.
The overall food service budget for the coming school year is about $400,000, according to Paul W. DeAngelo, the district's business administrator. About $205,000 will come from sales, $25,000 from local taxpayers, and the remainder of $170,000 from state and federal subsidies.
The Bristol Borough School District also increased lunch prices by 50 cents a meal recently.
The prices will go from $2.50 to $3 at Bristol Borough JR/SR High School; students at Warren Snyder-John Girotti Elementary School will pay $2.50 instead of $2.
The district also serves breakfast, but prices will remain unchanged there, at $1 at Snyder-Girotti and $1.50 at the high school.
The increase was necessary to keep the school lunch program self-supporting, Joseph Roe, Bristol Borough School District's business manager, has said.

School Board meeting recap
We kind of find it hard to believe that this is all that the reporter from the bcct chooses to report. Unless it is reported elsewhere, and we missed it, why is there no mention of the shady activity by Marlys Mihok. Ms. Mihok as board secretary(a paid position), changed Donna Wilson's stipend as the color guard coach from $1,000 on the board agenda minutes, to $250 on the meeting packet that is handed out to the public. Once again Marlys avoids following the law to get her way. In addition, not every board member knew of this change. Again, this is not a way to build trust, Marlys and her cronies once again let all of Morrisville down with their despicable behavior and disregard for the law. We would like to thank board member John Dewilde who did stick up for Donna Wilson and her color guard team. We wish more Board members would do the same.
We are hearing that Bill Farrell was up on his soapbox once again speaking how we all need to work together and put our differences behind us. We have two words for you Mr. Farrell......ENOUGH ALREADY!! Are you not watching what takes place at these meetings. How can the parents of this district trust anything your friends on the board do? Shame on you and your ignorance!

Board OKs budget with no tax increase

MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
Morrisville School District residents will pay no tax increase next year.
Voting 6-0, the school board approved an $18.3 million budget Wednesday night that balances the budget using $250,000 from the fund balance. That fund, which totals about $3 million, includes money left in savings from the previous year.
Board members Robin Reithmeyer, Brenda Worob and Gloria Heater were absent.
Business administrator Paul DeAngelo said he has earmarked another $250,000 from the fund balance to help pay for the Public School Employees' Retirement System. Retirement rates are expected to increase dramatically over the next five years.
The same millage rate of 177.3 will apply once again, and the average resident will pay about $3,191 in taxes. It's the third year in a row without a tax increase. In fact, taxes decreased in the previous two years.
The administration has said that no educational programs or services will be adversely affected by the $84,500 decrease in the spending plan.
About 60 percent of district expenses for 2010-11 will go toward salaries and benefits, which are contractual obligations. Other uncontrollable factors include special education and transportation services.
The bulk of the revenue is coming from local sources. State and federal funding, teacher retirements and efficiencies in energy and other areas are contributing to the savings in expenditures.
"We are not unusual in wanting to provide quality education and still keep taxes low. As always, this board directs its efforts toward making our small school district run as efficiently as possible," said board President William Hellmann.
Details of the budget are available at www.mv.org. Click on "Business Office" in the "District" pull-down menu.

Board takes steps to avoid tax hike
By: GEORGE MATTAR
Bucks County Courier Times
The Morrisville school board enthusiastically passed the Act 1 Resolution Wednesday, which will keep any tax increase below the 3.4 percent district index for the 2010-11 budget.
The vote was unanimous and most members gave a resounding "yes" when asked to vote. Board President William R. Hellmann said "absolutely" when voting yes.
The board and administration are working to keep taxes low, but is facing a $1.1 million shortfall for next year's budget, said Morrisville Superintendent Elizabeth Hammond Yonson.
By passing the resolution, the board is committed to and can no longer fall back on applying for exceptions to raise the tax any higher than 3.4 percent.
Right now, the budget is $18.4 million and the average tax bill is $3,191.
Last week, district business administrator Paul DeAngelo said, "We're going back to the drawing board. We're going to look at the budget line by line."
He told the board at a preliminary budget meeting that Morrisville schools will consider a number of ways to balance the budget, including an expected $100,000 credit from Intermediate Unit No. 22, as well as trying to reduce energy costs and efficiencies in special education facilities.
DeAngelo also said there are several factors contributing to the deficit, including 8.56 percent higher premiums for health care, a projected increase in the employees' retirement system, a $255,000 increase for the Bucks County Technical High School budget and decreases in local, state and federal revenues.
Additionally, teacher salaries and benefits are expected to increase about 3.5 percent.
Hellmann read a portion in an editorial from Thursday's newspaper that called for cutbacks in school districts' budgets.
"It says schools should do more to cut costs," he said. "We do need to cut costs. I agree with that."
In other business, resident Ann Perry asked the board about what she called "a persistent rumor" that some of the district's three music teachers would be laid off.
Yonson said she has no idea where Perry got that information and said nothing has been discussed regarding any such cuts.
After the meeting, Perry would not elaborate, but said she has heard it talked about throughout Morrisville.

School Board Meeting tonight!!!
The monthly meeting for the school board will take place tonight at 7:30pm in the LGI room of the IS/HS. This is the last meeting before the election on Nov 3. Come on out to see what these stay on trackers are all about. You will also get a chance to meet the Morrisville Pride candidates, we are sure they will be there, to answer any questions you may have. Do not expect to have any questions answered by the SOT team.
Anyway, if you want to speak, be sure to sign up before the meeting starts.
Will Brenda Worob be prepared, or even show up?
Will Angry Al be sitting there waiting to put his foot in his mouth again?
Will Bill Hellman fall asleep again?
Will Jack Buckman......do anything?
Will Ron Stout win another phony award?
Will Marlys Mihok continue to make a fool out of herself with her lies and deceit?
The audacity of the board majority and the stay on track slate is frightening!!
Be there to stand up for Morrisville! Don't let them ruin our town and our schools any longer.

Thoughts and observations from last nights meeting...
Either it's too early in the morning or something strange is happening. This is the second month in a row that there is no mention of a school board meeting online in the BCCT . What's going on here? If by some chance it makes it in later in the morning, could someone please post it in the comment section. Isn't it P.W.'s job to get information out to the public? Or does she just do puff pieces? What a waste of $$ her hiring was!
What are your thoughts and observations from the meeting last night? Did the stay on trackers behave?? Did they address any of the parents concerns regarding the traffic and renovation issues? Speaking of renovations, we received our propaganda packet of "stay in track" fliers. They are claiming that "much needed renovations left undone by past boards"(some of them sat on these boards )"are well underway and will be completed in September at both the Middle/Senior High School and Grandview Elementary School." First off isn't it called the Intermediate/High School? These people changed the name of the school and now they can't even call it by its proper name? And there is no way possible renovations will be complete in Sept. Grandview has not even started. Lies, Lies, Lies.

Observations Part 2
Question?? Why has there not been an article about the meeting on the online edition of the BCCT? Unless we missed it, which is possible, we have seen no reporting in the press about the meeting. Could it be that P.W. may have something to do with this? Could her idea of making Morrisville "look good" consist of misinformation that is reported( 21k per student), or no information at all given to the press. Surley there was a a reporter at the meeting. Where is the story. Of course if it appeared in the regular printed newspaper this theory gets thrown out. and our apologies to P.W. By the way could someone give her a map, so she knows where she is going in the schools.

Any observations from last nights meeting?
From what we've been told it seems like "Angry" Al Radosti was looking real angry last night. And Bill Hellman is continuing to talk of a finincial crisis that is ever looming. We did hear that Laurie Ruffing was approved for the permanent elemantary principal position. Congratulations Ms. Ruffing!! And probably the biggest news of the night was the board in a suprising vote actually did something right. The board voted 4-3 to hire a 4th kindergarten teacher. Only Hellman, Radosti, and Mihok voted against hiring a new teacher. Oh, and what's this we hear about a "new" book being donated to the board by Mr. Ronald Stout?

Reminder: Special board meeting 7/29
Just wanted to post a reminder of the special board meeting that will take place on 7/29. I'm sure they will slip in the closing of M.R. Reiter in there somehow. Also on the "agenda" is the award of bids for the Grandview school window replacements, discussion of the Capitol View School Lease agreement, and "such other matters as may properly come before the Board."(Reiter).
Does anyone have any info on the status of the Capitol View lease. Could they want to take this over as a replacement for Reiter?
Will P.W. make an apperance at the meeting?
